Blackberries, Truly Local Food

This is how the blackberries usually look- small, sour, & most never finish getting ripe before the frost kills them. Hardly worth more than just eating a few.

Yesterday, much to my excitement, I discovered these and many, many more behind my house. I was so excited. I mean talk about local food and no cost or planting involved on my part.

This plant shows huge promise if the weather holds. There are so many berries on it but the leaves are turning and the plant at this point shows mostly berries.

YUM!!!

All Summer in a Day

I took off work today to go to the beach on the last day before school starts. What a glorious day it was, warm, full of sunshine, and the beach was beautiful. Ahhh...we needed that.

We are a bit sad that summer is over and it is time for a return to a more scheduled life...L especially enjoys the freedom that summer brings. Today was the perfect summer day and we so enjoyed it.

Time does march forever onward and as I try to hold onto summer and warm weather the thoughts of fall and winter(gasp) have begun to creep in to my head. The 40 degrees nights push these thoughts to the forefront quicker than one expects. After all it is only August, though in Maine you really feel the weather shifting this early.

Hold onto summer just as long as you can, I know I will.

Summer Day

Fun! Oh yeah, I like it!

I was feeling overwhelmed again today and I decided to STOP and enjoy the day, my son, the sun, my favorite swimming spot, and myself instead of stressing out. As you can see it was an amazing day in our little corner of the world and we squeezed out some fun. I feel so much better now. I pulled myself out from the depths of despair, I was getting a bit tired of it anyway.

Time to jump back in and start enjoying life. As demonstrated in the above photo. I had some more photos but dratted blogger won't let me load them. Tomorrow...

Where O where is summer going?

Life is busy. We have taken a few walks. Gone to a few family parties. I have been swimming ONCE. I work a lot, too much it feels like lately, well too much for the amount I seem to accomplish. I try to fit in little bit of enjoyment when I remember-like the walk above. I have tried my hand at embroidery, which I liked and found pretty easy. I may enter one of my hats I knit last winter in the fair this weekend. Maybe. I love to take pictures and I do manage that occasionally and I pine for a new digital SLR camera. Uncle Paddy and I rearranged our bedroom and I am sleeping better now. Oh and let me not forget to mention that I have lost 25 pounds since April. I could go on and on. I won't. Life is full and that is good. I just need to remember to stop and take a minute to enjoy it. Every Day.
